R.A. Torrey on Loving God

“We are not saved because we love God; we are saved because God loves us. Our salvation begins in God loving us, and it results in our loving God.”

The Power Of Believing You Are Loved By God!

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” – Romans 8:35 (ESV)

In vs. 35 Paul asks “who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Then he proceeds to list circumstances of life that Christians may face, including famine and nakedness.

This is interesting because it is in the difficult circumstances of life that we are tempted to wonder if God loves us.

Yet Paul says that even lack of food (famine) or lack of clothing (nakedness), (which are two things God promises to provide for us in Matt 6), yet even if you do not have those things you still do not need to doubt God’s love for you.

Stand Strong In Faith!

“No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised”

Romans 4:20-21 ESV

Abraham is known as a man of faith. But what did walking by faith look like for him? God had promised him a son when he was 75 years old. At 99, that son still had not been born. If it would have been difficult to have a son at 75, it was definitely impossible now. His wife was 89 years old!

God made him a promise… that didn’t look like it was ever going to happen.

What would he do?

What would you have done?

What do you do when you’re waiting for one of God’s promises to be fulfilled in your life?

Spurgeon on The Necessity of Faith

Christian, take good care of thy faith; for recollect faith is the only way whereby thou canst obtain blessings. If we want blessings from God, nothing can fetch them down but faith. Prayer cannot draw down answers from God’s throne except it be the earnest prayer of the man who believes.

… But without faith how can I receive anything of the Lord? Let not him that wavereth—who is like a wave of the Sea—expect that he will receive anything of God! O, then, Christian, watch well thy faith; for with it thou canst win all things, however poor thou art, but without it thou canst obtain nothing. “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Connecting With Jesus Through The Word

When you study the Word of God, don’t make the mistake of approaching it as a dead textbook. It is the living Word of the Living God. Don’t study it to simply learn more about the Word, read it and study it in order to connect with the One who IS the Word, Jesus Christ!

Sin is something we have all dealt with and fought against. At times, the fight against sin can seem like a losing battle. The bad news is that until we get to heaven, we will face the temptations of the world and the flesh… we will have to deal with the presence of sin in our lives.

But there is good news!

Just because we face the presence of sin in our lives doesn’t mean we have to succumb to the power of sin. Your fight with sin doesn’t have to be a losing battle.
