It has been said that “Time is money”. If you are American, you have heard this saying many times. It indicates what we value as a culture: efficiency, process, profit, success, etc. We have accepted it as true and allow it to drive our lives and decision-making. This causes us to put work at the top of our priority list. While many people do this, living this way will not make you successful in every area of life!

Having a healthy marriage requires a lot of work. But hard work alone does not ensure you will end up in a happy, healthy marriage. The road to a happy marriage is scattered with landmines that wreak havoc on marriages. Many well-intentioned marriages have fallen prey to these traps. In war, landmines are so deadly because they sit below the surface, undetectable to the eye.
The same is true for the landmines in marriage. They sit below the surface, in the thoughts of your mind and attitudes of your heart. Avoiding them requires you to pay attention and proceed with caution if you suspect they are present. Healthy marriages learn to identify these landmines and remove them before they do lasting damage. Here are 5 landmines you must learn to avoid before they destroy your marriage.
What’s keeps you awake at night? What fills you with worry and anxiety, causing you to break into a cold sweat when you think about it?
Is it finances? Fear you won’t be able to pay bills or buy groceries?
What about relationship turmoil? Is your marriage struggling? Your kid rebelling?
How about your health? Do you fear cancer or premature death?
Maybe it’s the threat of natural disasters like Hurricanes?
When Jesus promised to give you an abundant life, anxiety was never intended to be a part of the package. Yet so many of us live with anxiety every day.
Anxiety sucks, to put it bluntly. It sucks the life out of you, which is the very opposite of the abundant life Jesus promised you. People spend too much time worrying about things they can’t control or worse, things that might not even happen. Have you ever been guilty of that? Have you ever found yourself worried about something that didn’t turn out as you thought it would? Usually, the worry is worse than the circumstance itself!
It doesn’t have to be this way though. You can overcome anxiety and discover the abundant life Jesus promised you. Overcoming anxiety isn’t about controlling your circumstances. It’s about controlling your thoughts and emotions in the midst of your circumstances.
When facing the storms of life it is easy to wonder where God is at in it all. I wanted to share a brief word of encouragement for those of you facing Hurricane Irma. Too often, we give into fear in moments like this. While Irma is a serious storm, there are better ways to react besides fear. Specifically, we can worship God. We can trust that God is good and He does not send storms like this upon us. Therefore, in the midst of these circumstances we can pray and praise Him, trusting He will deliver us through them!
I hope this short video encourages your hearts!
